Due to the nature of religion in ancient Egypt, the state and religion were inseparably intertwined with each supporting and validating the other (Redford 243). This was a guarantee to the people that there would be a continuance of cosmic, social, and moral order and give the Egyptian political order a divine character. Egypt was truly a "kingdom of god" and it was the king's job to maintain ma'at, the balance of all things. He was in charge of judgments, all laws were made in his name, and he owned everything. The Queen was the first wife, she held priestly titles, owned land, and could rule in her own right or as regent for her son.
