Religion was interwoven into all aspects of life in ancient Egypt, all citizens practiced and believed in it. To differentiate between what was not religious and what was, is almost impossible as the pharaoh is the embodiment of god and rules over everything. The two most important gods were Ra, the sun god, and Osiris, the god of resurrection; along with a host of lesser gods Egyptians had numerous rituals and festivals for their common religion (Budge 6). Centered around the idea of Ma'at, the balance of all things in nature, it is a shared responsibility between the gods, the pharaoh, and society to maintain it. Death and resurrection are fundamental ideas of the religion with people preparing for their loved ones or their death for most of their life. When people died in ancient Egypt, they were still remembered and celebrated as if they were still alive.
